Spike Changing Frequency
Golfers should generally change their spikes every 15 rounds, or about twice a season. However, the frequency depends on several factors, including:
- Playing conditions: Playing on firm, dry turf or in areas with little moisture can cause spikes to wear out faster.
- Type of golfer: Golfers who play frequently in wet conditions or store their shoes in the trunk of their car may need to replace their spikes more often.
- Shoe condition: Worn-out spikes can affect your swing, balance, and power generation.
To check if your spikes are replaceable, look at the bottom of your shoe for brand names and wrench holes. You can replace your spikes yourself using a spike wrench to twist off the old spikes and screw in new ones.
You can also care for your golf shoes by:
- Removing excess mud and dirt from the grooves with a golf shoe brush
- Storing them in the proper environment after each use
- Cleaning them after each round
